VA Compensation and Pension

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs provides many programs and compensation plans that provide support for veterans and their families. As a veteran, you may qualify for Veterans Pension and Survivors Pension benefit programs. In addition to this, several compensation programs are provided for veterans based on their circumstances.

VA Special Monthly Compensation

For veterans who have been injured in the line of duty and require specialized care from another person in order to conduct their daily duties, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs provides a Special Monthly Compensation to assist in the cost of continued support. Special Monthly Compensation is generally higher than other benefits, and can be paid to veterans, spouses and surviving spouses to offset the cost of the requirement of aid from an additional individual. This type of compensation is particularly advantageous for blinded veterans and their families.

How to Qualify for VA Compensation and Pension

Beginning the claims process for compensation is easy. As a blinded veteran, you may qualify for disability compensation if you were blinded while serving in the military, or your condition became much worse as a result of serving. A disability compensation claim can be made online. For pensions, a veteran must have served at least 90 days of active duty service, and at least one of the 90 days must have been served during a qualifying wartime period. You must also satisfy one of a number of other requirements. Application for Veterans Pension can also be made online.
