Miscellaneous 59th Updates

The Reno Hilton is northern Nevada’s most complete convention hotel, casino, and resort destination. The property offers a wealth of food, fun, and recreation, all under one roof.
Several restaurants are situated off the main lobby, including Andiamo’s Italian Restaurant, The Steakhouse, Asiana, Grand Canyon Buffet, Chevy’s Mexican Restaurant, Lindy’s Authentic New York Deli, Johnny Rockets, and the Expresso Café. Hotel entertainment is provided in the Garage Night Club, the Improv Comedy Club, and the Aspen Lounge. The Hilton Theater features talent shows and musical extravaganzas. Other popular spots are the Fun-Quest Family Center, Bumper Cars, and Tumble Town.

Other highlights of the Hilton are two movie theaters, an outdoor swimming pool, and a shopping mall with more than 25 stores. The hotel sports a health and tennis club with indoor/outdoor courts, a climbing wall, a spa, an indoor golf simulator offering 32 championship courses, a golf driving range, a pro shop, and a 50-lane, 24-hour bowling center.

Room rates are $85.00 for both single and double occupancy. Additional guests will be charged $10.00 each per night. The room tax is currently 12 percent, bringing the room rate to a total of $95.20. Reservations can be made by calling toll free 800-648-5080, by dialing 775-789-2129, or through the hotel website, www.renohilton.com Individuals making reservations must remember to state their affiliation with the Blinded Veterans Association in order to receive the negotiated rate.

The Reno Hilton is located just one mile, or five minutes, from the Reno Airport. A complimentary shuttle runs every 30 minutes from the airport to the hotel and vice versa.

The other update for the 59th Convention concerns the sweepstakes. Tickets were mailed to BVA members in mid-February. If each member purchased just one ticket and made the suggested donation, the grand prize would amount to more than $25,000. There are six tickets in each mailing.

The Spring 2004 issue of the Bulletin will update ticket holders on the size of the prize pool and the corresponding first place award. Last year, for example, William E. Bettis of San Antonio, Texas, was awarded approximately $5,300.
