Partnership for Veterans Health Care Budget Reform
BVA has joined with eight other Veterans Service Organizations
(VSOs) in a campaign to educate members of Congress about the
need for a reformed budgeting mechanism, namely mandatory funding.
BVA supports moving Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) health
care from a discretionary to a mandatory, or guaranteed, funding
method.
Mandatory funding would neither change current eligibility requirements
nor create a new entitlement benefit. It would, however, eliminate
the year-to-year uncertainty about funding levels that have prevented
VA from adequately planning for and meeting the growing needs
of veterans seeking care. Providing quality, timely health care
services for veterans disabled as a result of military service
should be a top priority.
The Partnership for Veterans Health Care Budget Reform launched
the campaign for mandatory funding at a press conference on February
18, 2004. BVA Executive Director Tom Miller represented BVA at
this event.
