Matthews Cited For Service
BVA Region I Field Service Representative Stephen Matthews recently
received the Mildred Hilliard Memorial Award from the Massachusetts
Commission for the Blind.
The annual award, initiated five years ago, recognizes extraordinary
service to the Commission. Steve received the honor and a large
plaque during a ceremony held at the Commission on November 19.
He was accompanied by his wife, Suzanne, and some 30 Massachusetts
state employees.
Steve presently serves the Massachusetts Commission for the Blind
in a number of significant capacities. Among them are membership
on the Governors Advisory Council, chairman of the transportation
committee, and membership on a committee to effect and facilitate
relocation of the Commissions offices.
The award is presented to individuals who best personify the
service of Mildred Hilliard who, according to Steves plaque,
"saw through her blindness and strove, and who volunteered
her time and talents with love."
