Puerto Rico Offers Hearty Thank You

Officers and members of the Puerto Rico Regional Group are particularly aware of the importance of expressing gratitude to the individuals who contribute most meaningfully to their welfare.

A plaque of appreciation presented to Martin Albarran at the San Juan VA Medical Center last December 16 was no exception. Albarran served for 10 years as an advocate for blinded veterans as a VA Rating Specialist, functioning as a liaison between the VA Regional Office’s Adjudication Section and the Visual Impairment Services Team within the Medical Center. The plaque was presented on behalf of both the regional group and the VIST.

“I would say that Martin’s work favorably affected decisions that involved more than 100 of our blinded veterans during his tenure,” said Regional Group President Juan Olmeda.

The plaque read in part: “In recognition of your many years of service and outstanding support. Your hard work and dedication made the difference in the effectiveness of the VIST. Because of your expertise, we are more knowledgeable about veterans benefits and services.”

The group also inscribed on the plaque a congratulatory statement regarding Albarran’s recent promotion to the position of Decision Review Officer.

Regional Groups Design New Sites

BVA regional groups have begun designing and maintaining their own Internet websites at an increasing pace. Domain names are independently secured and registered.

The most recent additions are sites for the Rio Grande (El Paso), San Diego, and South Texas Regional Groups. The Indiana Regional Group is currently working on a new site. The Florida, Greater Houston, Kentuckiana, and Northern Arizona Regional Groups have much longer histories.

Please contact BVA National Headquarters with information about any other group sites that may be under construction or near completion. To link to any of the regional group sites, go to the Related Links page on the BVA national site, www.bva.org/links.html.

Minister Again Offers Free Bibles

Pastor Donald P. Husser of the Christian Church Without Walls, a life member of BVA and a member of the Southern California Regional Group, is offering, for the fifth consecutive year, giant-print Bibles free of charge to blinded veterans. Both the King James and the New American Standard version are available.

Requests for either version should be sent in the form of a letter, which should consist of a signed statement by the blinded veteran indicating that he or she is indeed legally blind. Letters should be sent to Pastor Donald P. Husser, P.O. Box 5047, Anaheim, CA 92814.
