Generosity Highlights RG Work in St. Louis

BVA’s St. Louis Area Regional Group demonstrated its generosity with a number of donations to assist disabled veterans during the month of March.

According to Harvey Boots, regional group secretary, $300 was donated to the St. Louis Disabled Veterans Honorary Sports Team. Regional group Vice President Sherri Craven presented the funds to Amy Will, team coach, at a special ceremony at the Jefferson Barracks VA Medical Center on March 31.

The regional group also donated $300 to support the National Blinded Veterans TEE Tournament in Iowa City and made still another donation to the New Athens Senior Citizens Community Center for transportation of a World War II visually impaired veteran to his VA Medical Center appointments.

BVA life member and Korean War veteran Harold Hill of the Mountain States Regional Group (West Virginia) was recently spotlighted on the WOWK-TV news in Huntington, West Virginia. He was also interviewed and featured by the Huntington Herald-Dispatch and the Wayne County News.

According to Dalene Renfroe, Harold’s VIST Coordinator, the coverage demonstrated the effectiveness of the ScripTalk Audible Prescription Reader in helping blinded veterans exercise greater independence. Harold was the first veteran at the Huntington VA Medical Center to receive the device.

The television news story pointed out a parallel between Harold’s fight for his country, freedom, and independence 50 years ago in Korea and the independence for which he must fight today.
