Belote Honored in San Antonio
BVA National Vice President Larry Belote, VIST Coordinator in
the South Texas Healthcare System, recently received the 23rd
Annual Secretarys Hands and Heart Award. Larry serves blinded
veterans throughout South Texas.
The award is presented annually to an employee in each VA healthcare
system that best exemplified the finest in patient care during
the previous year.
"You have earned this distinguished honor for your commitment,
expert knowledge, and dedication in providing quality health care
to our veterans," wrote Secretary Anthony J. Principi in
a citation letter to Larry. "The values and high standards
of patient care you champion epitomize VAs commitment to
keeping our nations promise to veterans."
Larry was nominated last fall by his chief of social work. A
national committee subsequently selected him to receive the award
from among several nominees.
St. Louis Officers Attend Dedication
Two officers of the St. Louis Regional Group, President William
Johnson and Vice President Del Landers, witnessed and participated
in the November 4, 2003 ceremonial opening of the Belleville,
Illinois, VA Medical Clinic.
"This was a monumental occasion for so many veterans in
this area," said Del. "They will now have excellent
access to basic medical services without the burden and inconvenience
of traveling long distances."
The clinic has 11 examination rooms and is staffed with seven
medical professionals. Transportation is furnished by the clinic
for veterans who must receive advanced treatment at John Cochran
VA Medical Center in St. Louis.
