It is hard to believe that this is my last Presidents Page.
In so many ways, the time has flown by, and my experience as BVA
president has been very rewarding. Although there were many things
that I wanted to get done that didnt happen, I believe that
the organization is blessed with a good Board of Directors and
an outstanding staff. I believe that we are going in the right
direction and are well equipped to continue to accomplish our
mission.
Since the last Bulletin,
I have attended two events of note. I attended the leadership
training conference in Birmingham, Alabama, chaired by Board Member
and Director of District 1 General Weeks. The program was outstanding
and stimulated a wide range of discussion topics among the attendees.
Although outcome results of this type of venture are difficult
to measure, they certainly appear promising to me. I will support
the continuation of these conferences.
On July 18, I attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the new
Blind Rehabilitation Center at Hines. It has been a long time
coming, and we have strongly supported this construction. We eagerly
anticipate the completion that will no doubt enhance the rehabilitation
training for our blinded veterans.
The Myrtle Beach convention is also upon us. Thanks to all of
the hard work by those involved in the planning and operation
of the convention, I anticipate that this final gathering during
my presidency will run smoothly. I encourage all of our members
to attend and be a part of guiding our association for the next
year.
Lastly, I would like to thank the entire Board of Directors,
the BVA staff, and all of our members for their support during
my tenure. You all have made the job worthwhile and rewarding
for me and, for that, I thank each and every one of you.
