COLA and Other
Legislation
The Cost of Living Adjustment, or COLA, was approved for the upcoming calendar year at 4.1 percent and should be showing up in January checks.
New legislation was passed that would allow Veterans Benefits Administration funding for home improvements in increments of $10,000, which could be used by veterans with disability that need temporary adaptive housing changes. While the final regulations are being written, this would be a change from the past in which only a one-time $50,000 home adaptive change could be made.
We are carefully tracking other legislation, still in committee, that would help all BVA members. House Continuing Resolution 235 was introduced by Representative Lane Evans (D-IL-17). The resolution requests that every state adopt information in the driver education and licensure material that stresses the need to recognize individuals with a white cane or guide dog as blind, and that extreme caution should be exercised upon such recognition. This is the third attempt at getting Congress to pass this resolution—an amazing fact considering that a resolution does not require any funding! |
