VA Aids Make Difference

A few months ago the Bulletin printed a letter from Max Hearn regarding the Script Talk device. Now, after about six months of checking and testing, VA has approved the distribution of Script Talk by all of its pharmacies.

All blind and visually impaired veterans, or those who have difficulty with prescription labels, should avail themselves of this new technology if they utilize the VA pharmacy system. They can do so by contacting their VIST Coordinator and/or VA prosthetics service.
I believe that there are eligible veterans who do not receive support equipment due to lack of knowledge about available resources. I also recommend En-Vision America’s ID Mate II, another item blinded veterans can receive through VA Prosthetic Services if they are deemed eligible.

A Receptacle for Old Flags

You can dispose of your tattered, worn out, and frayed American flags without cost to you. Send your flags to the Kitchen Table Gang Trust, 42922 Avenue 12, Madera, CA 93638-8866, and we will dispose of your flags in a proper and dignified manner with full honors pursuant to the United States Code.

Please, don’t throw your old flags in the trash. Send them to us!

Veterans Day at Punchbowl

Veterans Day was different this year. Traditionally, I have been with BVA members at Arlington National Cemetery on this solemn day. This year, after seven years of working directly for veterans, I found myself, ironically, among veterans again.

As many of you may know by now, I left my position as Director of Government Relations for BVA in mid-June. My new job took me to Hawaii, where I had the great fortune of attending the Veterans Day Ceremony at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific (Punchbowl).

You and your families will have a special place in my heart forever. The Blinded Veterans Association was an amazing place for me to begin a career. Never in a million years did I imagine that I would have the opportunities the Association afforded me: Visits to the White House, testifying before Commissions, writing Congressional testimony– truly making a difference.

It has been an honor and a privilege to work for you.
