BVA Honors Women's History Month
Since 1988, U.S. presidents have issued annual proclamations designating the month of March as Women’s History Month. The early 21st century has provided continued success for women in the military.
In January 2013, the Secretary of Defense lifted the ban on women in combat roles and gave the military two years to complete integration. This shift opened the opportunity for women to fill 220,000 military combat positions.
Today, women have a larger presence in our military today than ever before. With more than 200,000 women serving in the active-duty military, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) predicted that by 2020 women veterans will comprise nearly 11 percent of the total veteran population. BVA honors our women veterans and those who currently serve.
