In Remembrance...

Known as the home of the Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks, renowned Churchill Downs Racetrack in Louisville occupies 147 acres and features a one-mile dirt oval and a seven-furlong turf course. The Kentucky Derby Museum at its entrance is open 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. on Sundays. The 1,500-pound bronze statue memorializes Barbaro, the 2006 Kentucky Derby winner who shattered his leg two weeks later in the Preakness, ending his career and eventually leading to his death.
