BVA is Looking for a Full-Time Communications/Development Assistant

BVA currently has an immediate opening for a full-time, Communications/Development Assistant at the BVA National Headquarters in Alexandria, VA. Resume with contact information, 1-page writing sample and cover letter must be received by February 18th, 2019.

 

The Blinded Veterans Association (BVA) is a congressionally chartered organization of blinded veterans serving blinded veterans. Through our service programs, regional groups, resources, public education and advocacy before the legislative and executive branches of government, we strive to make life better for blinded veterans.

 

Description:

 

The Communications/Development Assistant will provide high-level writing, proofreading, and editing support to the integrated Blinded Veteran’s Association (“BVA”) Development and Communications Team.  This position will provide hands-on creative content support for educational, fundraising, and informational campaigns in all mediums, and will assist with prospect research, tracking donor databases, and coordinating donor recognition activities. The Communications/Development Assistant will also assist with functions related to fundraising, including development invoice processing, cultivating and soliciting donors, coordinating stewardship and other special fundraising events, and regularly communicating with donors and sponsors.

 

Required Skills and Experience:

 

Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, communications, or a related field with two years internship or related professional experience. Excellent oral and written communications skills. Excellent time management, organizational and interpersonal skills. Effective and accurate data analysis and interpretation skills. Accurate and proficient keyboard skills along with print design/production experience. Ability to work and solve problems independently with little supervision. A creative and investigative thinker

 

Preferred Skills and Experience:

 

  1. Veteran of U.S. Military Service with a discharge, time-in-service or medical retirement characterized on a DD-214 as Honorable with a V.A. disability rating of 70% or higher.

     

  2. Be a Veteran or dependent of a Veteran of U.S. Military Service with a discharge, time-in-service or medical retirement characterized on a DD-214 as Honorable.

 

Job Type: Full-time position working 37.5 hours/week.

 

Classification: Non-Exempt – Can earn overtime

 

Salary: $17.00 /hour

 

Work Station Location:

 

The position of Communications/Development Assistant is located in the BVA National Office.  Some local and national travel may be required; otherwise, the Communications/Development Assistant is expected to work in the National Office Monday – Friday from 8:30 am – 4:30 pm.
